چکیده

An algorithm is described for the calculation of equilibrium compositions of multiple highly nonideal liquid and solid solutions, as well as pure stoichiometric phases, coexisting with a mixture of ideal gas species at fixed temperature and pressure. The total Gibbs free energy of the system is approximated as a quadratic function of the compositions of the gas phase and stable condensed phases, in an orthogonal basis set of pure elements. Only changes in thermal energy and energy related to pressure-volume work are considered. The total Gibbs energy is minimized directly by use of both the slope and the curvature of the Gibbs energy surface with respect to the gas and condensed phase compositions in the basis elements. The algorithm described has been implemented in a computer code for the calculation of condensation sequences for cosmic nebular gases enriched in dust. Machine, compiler and library requirements for performing these calculations in the C programming language are compared. c © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Comput Chem 21: 247–256, 2000

Multi-Component-Multiphase Flash Calculations for Systems Containing Gas Hydrates by Direct Minimization of Gibbs Free Energy

The Michelsen stability and multiphase flash calculation by direct minimization of Gibbs free energy of the system at constant temperature and pressure, was used for systems containing gas hydrates. The solid hydrate phase was treated as a solid solution. The fugacities of all components of the hydrate phase were calculated as a function of compositions by the rearranged model of van der Wa...

Thermodynamic Analysis of Light Olefins Production via Cracking of n-Hexane Using Gibbs Energy Minimization Approach and Analysis of Overall Reactions

Thermodynamic analysis of the cracking of hexane has been conducted by the Gibbs free energy minimization method and second law analysis of overall reactions. By-products have been divided into three groups of methane, alkynes and aromatics and their possible production paths have been discussed. Effect of operating conditions such as temperature and steam-to-hexane ratio on the cracking perfor...

Modeling of liquid–liquid equilibria of aqueous alcohol + salt systems using amodified NRTL

The modified NRTL (m-NRTL) model is used to represent the excess Gibbs free energy of aqueous (alcohol + electrolyte) solutions. In this work, the m-NRTL model previously developed for representation of vapor-liquid equilibria for (polymer + salt + water) systems has been extended to represent liquid-liquid equilibria of (alcohol + salt + water) systems. The proposed extension is a modified of ...

Thermodynamics of Flat Thin Liquid Films

The two main themes of this study aim to resolve conflicting results in the literature regarding the thermodynamics of flat (uniform thickness) thin liquid films. One of the themes concerns the augmented Young equation, which is a condition for mechanical equilibrium. Two different expressions for the augmented Young equation have appeared in the literature. It is shown that under certain assum...

Determination of the Equilibrium Parameters of Gaseous Detonations Using a Genetic Algorithm

The present work is concerned with the development of a new algorithm for determination of the equilibrium composition of gaseous detonations. The elements balance equations, and the second law of thermodynamics (i.e., the minimization of the Gibbs free energy of products), are used to determine the equilibrium composition of the detonation products. To minimize the Gibbs free energy with tradi...
